A Fenton woman died Saturday afternoon after the motorcycle she was riding crashed into a car in southeastern Franklin County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that Barbara J. LaChance, 67, was pronounced dead as she was being transported by Meramec Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington.

LaChance was a passenger on a 2013 Harley-Davidson trike driven by Michael O. Whitecotton, 58, of House Springs. Whitecotton sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington for treatment, the patrol said.

The 1 p.m. crash happened on Highway HH, 1.4 miles north of Oak Ridge Road in the Catawissa area.

The patrol said the motorcycle was northbound behind a 2007 Toyota Prius driven by Meredith O. Vitale, 20, Eureka, when Vitale made a sudden stop to make a left turn into a private driveway.

Whitecotton swerved to the left but the motorcycle struck the left front of the car. The cycle than ran off the left side of the road and overturned, ejecting the driver and passenger, according to the preliminary patrol report.
