The Franklin County Commission on Tuesday approved acquiring right of way for two bridge projects.

The commission agreed to pay a total of $8,000 for three pieces of right of way for the New Hope Church Road bridge project.

Debe Berg was paid $1,000; David Berwald, $1,000; and Jerry Landing, $6,000.

The design for the New Hope Church Road bridge is basically final, said Eva Gadcke, Franklin County’s highway administrator.

She noted that the final design for the project can’t be approved until all of the right of way is in place.

Gadcke said one needed parcel has not been acquired because it is going through eminent domain.

Construction could begin in 2014 on the New Hope Church Road bridge, Gadcke said. The project includes two bridges for a combined cost of about $1.3 million, Gadcke said.

The commission on Tuesday also accepted the donation of a piece of right of way for the Herbst Road bridge replacement. The right of way was donated by Marshall and Juanita Baker.

The Herbst Road bridge replacement should go under construction this year, Gadcke said. She noted that it will be about a $340,000 project.
