There will be an open house Thursday to allow the public to view the Franklin County Health Department’s newly remodeled facility.
The health department recently moved into the former county prosecutor’s office at 414 E. Main St. in Union.
The open house will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The former prosecutor’s office underwent an extensive remodel at a cost of close to $600,000, according to a spreadsheet provided by County Auditor Tammy Vemmer’s office.
Health Department Director Angie Hittson said the open house also will be an opportunity for the public to learn about services the health department offers.
Officials say the project was needed to give the health department more space and a better facility.
The new facility provides better access for people with disabilities and gives members of the public more privacy when they receive services, Presiding County Commissioner John Griesheimer has said.
In addition, it allowed the health department to move out of a rented facility and into a county-owned building.
Prior to moving into the former prosecutor’s office, the county was renting a building in downtown Union for $1,600 a month.
