Icy road conditions are being blamed in a fatal head-on collision Friday in Franklin County.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said 23-year-old Whitney R. Gabathule of Hermann died from injuries suffered in the crash on Highway 100, east of New Haven.
Thomas D. Whited, 62, of New Haven, was seriously injured in the 11:48 a.m. crash, according to the preliminary patrol report.
The patrol said Whited was driving a 2003 Jeep westbound on Highway 100 when he lost control on the ice-covered bridge over Boeuf Creek, east of Buchheit Road, and crossed over into the westbound lane. His Jeep collided with the eastbound 2006 Saturn driven by Gabathule.
The Gabathule car then ran off the right side of the road.
Gabathule was transported by Washington Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis where she died at 3:48 p.m., according to the patrol report.
Whited was taken by New Haven Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington for treatment of serious injuries, the patrol said.
Both drivers were wearing safety belts.
