Building permits for single-family homes in Franklin County are up over last year.

Through August, there have been 67 permits for single-family homes issued compared to 53 in the same time period last year.

In August, there were 11 single-family building permits issued with a total value of $1.9 million.

These are just permits for unincorporated Franklin County and do not include any home permits that would be issued within municipalities.

The permits have been fairly scattered and not concentrated in a particular subdivision, according to the county building department. However, the more populated eastern part of the county appears to be seeing more home development than the western side, according to the department.

The August county building report also showed that there were 10 permits issued for residential additions/modifications with a total value of $697,910.

Also, there was an industrial permit valued at $800,000 for a machine shop addition to Linmark Machine, which is on Highway 47 north of Union.

And there were 11 permits for other “nonresidential buildings,” which are typically storage buildings, valued at $243,180.
