The Washington Town and Country Fair is seeking members for its first 16-person Junior Fair Board to assist with planning and executing the Fair, set for Aug. 7-11.
Amanda Griesheimer, Washington Area Chamber of Commerce marketing director, said the Fair Board has wanted to start a junior board for several years.
“We heard about other fairs that have junior boards at the International Association of Fairs and Expositions,” Griesheimer said. “This year, we were able to get it done and we’re very excited. There are a lot of places (board members) can serve.”
Applicants must be residents of Franklin or an adjoining county, age 13-18, and have a minimum 2.0 grade point average for the immediate past semester.
In addition to the application, those interested must also have a letter of recommendation from a teacher or other adult.
Griesheimer said the letter will help the Fair Board get to know candidates better, as well as help prepare students for situations in the future where they will need letters of recommendation.
Students will have an opportunity on the application to express what areas or committees they might be interested in.
The Junior Fair Board will be involved in the promotion of the Fair and will develop on-site activities.
“We want to know what they want to see at the Fair and what events they can help us plan to make the Fair a better experience for everyone,” Griesheimer said. “We want them to be involved and help take this Fair another step higher.”
Like the main Fair Board, junior board members will be split up into committees, such as marketing, AgriLand, concessions, family fun center, home economics, livestock, parking, the parade, as well as other committees and subcommittees.
“There are limitless possibilities for us to utilize them and for what they can contribute to the success of the Fair,” Griesheimer said.
Application packets are available at the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce Office, 323 W. Main St.
Packets will also be provided to the local schools and 4-H clubs.
For more information or to request a packet, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applications must be received at the Chamber office by Friday, April 19.
An interview process will follow for potential candidates at a date and time to be announced individually.
