A Merry and Blessed Christmas to all!
As we celebrate the birth of Christ, we know again the depth of God’s love for us that He would send His only Son for our salvation! What a gift! What a grace – and we are the recipients of such a freely given gift. Let us rejoice in this good news of great joy!
This gift of Jesus as He comes to dwell in our world and in our hearts is a gift that is meant to be given away. As Pope Francis said in his first encyclical, Lumen Fidei, “Those who have opened their hearts to God’s love, heard His voice and received His light, cannot keep this gift to themselves.” It is our task to share this good news of great joy at Christmastime and all year-round. And we are called to share this Christmas message in word and deed — to friend and family member and stranger alike. We can do it with a word of kind thanks for gifts received, in a visit to someone who is sick or lonely, through a smile to the person working at the store, or in a gift to the poor. One of my favorite quotes of Pope Francis is this, “I prefer a church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets.” Let’s get out in the streets to share the message of hope that started in a manger because there was no room at the inn. It’s the work of the church, which really means it’s the work of you and me!
God bless you and your loved ones during this Christmas season!
