UPDATED: An 18-year-old Franklin County man accused of shooting his 24-year-old brother Sunday, Sept. 1, has been released pending the outcome of an investigation.

Sheriff Gary Toelke said his detectives are receiving conflicting accounts from parties involved iin the incident.

Deputies were called to a home in the 700 block of Forest Woods Trail, west of St. Clair, about 1:30 p.m. to a report of shooting. 

When they arrived, they found the 24-year-old man who had been shot under his right arm with a .410-gauge shotgun. 

The shooting victim, who later was identified as Joshua Whitworth, Bourbon, was taken to Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, for treatment. 

The brother was arrested for investigation of first-degree assault, Toelke said.

According to reports, the brothers had been arguing when the suspect got the shotgun.

More information will be released as it becomes available, the sheriff said.
