In the wake of severe storms and flooding that hit the city of De Soto and surrounding areas last month, Gov. Jay Nixon has requested a declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) that would clear the way for financial assistance to impacted residents and businesses in Jefferson County and five contiguous counties: Franklin, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, St. Louis and Washington.
SBA disaster loans are issued to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private, nonprofit organizations to repair or replace real estate, personal property, machinery and equipment, inventory and business assets that have been damaged or destroyed.
“Jefferson County — and De Soto, in particular — was subjected to severe storms and flooding from April 16-26 that caused extensive damage from wind, water and hail,” Gov. Nixon said.
Gov. Nixon issued two executive orders on April 19 related to the storm system. One order declared a state of emergency, activating the State Emergency Operations Plan; the other order activated the Missouri National Guard.
