Furnishings for new space that East Central College is leasing in Rolla were approved by college trustees at the Nov. 4 meeting.

Board members authorized the purchase of $23,518 in furnishings from KI Innovative Office Solutions to outfit a computer lab and other areas in the 7,900-square-foot facility ECC is leasing from Columbia College.

Much of the facility will be furnished with existing furniture from the current location.

Located at 2303 North Bishop, north of Interstate 44 in Rolla, the building will house ECC’s nursing program and can also be used for some general education course offerings.

ECC will pay $12 per square foot ($7,900 per month) through 2016 for the new space.

Since 2007, ECC’s nursing program has operated from a 3,000-square-foot facility on Bridge School Road that the college leases from Phelps County Regional Medical Center for $37,120 per year.

East Central will continue to house the majority of its operation at Rolla Technical Center.

For the past two years the college has also rented two classrooms at The Centre, a multipurpose facility run by the city of Rolla.

College officials noted that the new facility on Bishop will have more space for students, faculty and staff and give ECC a site more convenient for students and the integration with other college operations.

ECC plans to have the facility remodeled and ready for the start of spring semester classes.
