Franklin County Picks Firm for Election Services

A contract for election services was awarded by the Franklin County Commission last Tuesday.

The award went to Henry M. Adkins & Son, Inc. of Clinton, which was the only company the county sought bids from.

County Clerk Debbie Door said other bids were not sought because the county uses Henry M. Adkins & Son election equipment.

“They’re the only company that’s compatible with their equipment,” Door said.

The bids were broken out into four different elections.

The bid for the April 2 general municipal election was $41,766.

“At this point, we know that we only have the April election,” Door said.

But the company also provided bids for three special elections that could take place: June 4, $22,842; Aug. 6, $28,350; and Nov. 5, $37,756.

“We have them go ahead and set up a basic election for us,” Door said.

The county will receive a number of services from the company including programming the voting equipment and giving on-site support during elections.

“They provide assistance for whatever we need at any point through the election cycle,” Door said.

The county commission Tuesday also approved the sole bid from Specialty Mailing of St. Louis to print election cards that are mailed to voters prior to elections.

Specialty Mailing bid $30 per 1,000 cards. Door said the county sends out about 60,000 cards to residents prior to countywide elections.

The cards state the precinct, voter’s name and the address of the polling place.

The cards also have a barcode and can be scanned at polling places to identify voters.
