A Bourbon man suffered serious injuries on Thursday morning when he was involved in a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 44 in Sullivan.
The Missouri Highway Patrol stated that the man, Jason A. Weiskopf, 41, was transported by Missouri Baptist Ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan following the 7:05 a.m. crash near the 225-mile marker of the highway.
According to the patrol, a 2012 Freightliner semitrailer was parked on the shoulder of westbound I-44 because of a mechanical problem. Weiskopf, driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, traveled off the right side of the highway and ran into the back of the trailer.
Weiskopf was not wearing a safety belt.
The driver of the semi was Bamidele J. Ojo, 53, of Kansas City. He was not injured.
The westbound lanes of I-44 were closed until the accident scene was cleared. Traffic was rerouted until the highway reopened.
The Silverado was totaled. Damage to the semitrailer was moderate.
