Franklin County Reports Jump in Home Building Permits

The Franklin County Building Department in November issued 10 single-family building permits, and three of those were for houses valued over $300,000 each.

There were twice as many permits for single-family homes in November compared to November 2011.

Through November of this year, the Franklin County Building Department has issued 83 permits for single-family homes, according to Susan Scott, office manager.

That only includes permits for unincorporated Franklin County, not those in municipalities.

In all of 2011, the Franklin County Building Department issued 101 permits for single-family homes.

That compares to 94 in 2010, 106 in 2009, 139 in 2008, and 218 in 2007.

The department in November also issued a commercial building permit for a $1 million gym off Highway 47 midway between Union and Washington.

In total, the department issued 61 permits last month, which is above the 49 issued in November 2011.

Other than single-family and commercial, those permits include public works and utilities, nonresidential buildings, other structures, residential additions/modifications, garage and carport additions, commercial storage, manufactured homes, and electric and sewer permits.
