The Franklin County Commission Tuesday approved a bid for the construction of two new bridges on New Hope Church Road.

The county awarded the contract to Magruder Construction of Eolia, which bid $1,071,095.

It was the lowest of nine bids.

The engineer’s estimate for the project was $1.1 million, with approximately $300,000 of the project being paid for with county funds and the other $800,000 from federal dollars.

The project will replace the main bridge and a low-water crossing.

The main bridge is currently gone. It was damaged in a 2006 flood and removed because it was causing property erosion, according to Franklin County Highway Administrator Eva Gadcke.

The low-water crossing will be replaced with a single-span bridge, Gadcke said.

The larger bridge will cross Indian Creek while the smaller one will go over Little Indian Creek.

The bridges may go under construction at the end of July and take about four months to build, Gadcke has said. This project will serve as an important connection between Washington County and Franklin County, she said.

The other bidders for the project were: Gershenson Construction, Eureka, $1,136,698; Krupp Construction, Ellisville, $1,145,899; Kozeny-Wagner, Arnold, $1,165,592; Pace Construction, St. Louis, $1,214,500; RV Wagner, St. Louis, $1,214,677; Don Schneider’s Excavating Company, Jefferson City, $1,219,981; Phillips Grading and Construction, Boonville, $1,304,674; and West Contracting, Brentwood, $1,563,784.
