Franklin County detectives were investigating a shooting Friday night at a home north of St. Clair.

Initial reports indicated that a father and son were involved in an altercation and that the father shot the son in the chest with a shotgun.

The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. at a home in the 1200 block of  Reiker Ford Road, between St. Clair and Union, according to reports.

Sheriff Gary Toelke said the preliminary report was that the father shot the son with a .410 gauge shotgun.

Witnesses stated that the son came to the residence to retrieve a vehicle that his father had in his possession.  An argument began between the two that led to the shooting, Toelke said.

The son was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis, at Creve Coeur, for treatment.

Subke told The Missourian that the son, who was identified as 39-year-old Nathaniel Crow, was in stable condition and expected to survive.

Authorities were interviewing the father in connection with incident.
