Food service establishments that lost power in the Wednesday storm should contact the Franklin County Health Department to ensure that no spoilage of products occurred, an official says.

The number to call is 636-583-7309.

Four food service business that are known to have lost power are in the Villa Ridge area — Villa Ridge Foods, Dollar General, Burger King and Phillips 66.

The county health department has 500 establishments that it inspects, said Tony Buel, epidemiology specialist.

Residents can also contact the health department if they have questions about the safety of their food products after a power outage, Buel said.

Two years ago after a severe storm came through the area leaving many here without power for hours, The Missourian ran a feature story on food safety, when and what homeowners should throw out from their refrigerators and freezers after extended periods without power.
