There is still no decision on the county highway department union contract.

But Presiding County Commissioner John Griesheimer said he does not think it should take much longer.

Until there is a decision, it is unknown if the highway department union members will get merit raises that were approved by the county commission for other workers.

“They’ll (union members) continue to be paid at the current rate until the contract is approved,” Griesheimer said.

Other county employees got a 1.5 percent cost of living pay raise and a separate merit raise was also approved. The merit raise could also be for 1.5 percent, and it was based on employees meeting certain criteria.

The current three-year contract expired Dec. 31 but was extended as negotiations continue.

There are about 50 highway department union members.

Contract negotiations started around October.
