State Sen. Brian Nieves, R-Washington, filed Monday to run for the office of Franklin County recorder of deeds.

Nieves recently dropped his re-election bid to the State Senate in hopes of serving closer to home in a county elected office.

Nieves filed to run as a Republican candidate.

The deadline is Tuesday at 5 p.m. to file for the Aug. 5 primary election.

Other candidates for the county recorder of deeds seat include three more Republicans — Doris Meyer, Villa Ridge; Jennifer Metcalf, Union; and Langdon Knight, Washington; and Democrat Judy Carroll, Washington.

On Monday, there was also another candidate to file for the collector of revenue seat currently held by Republican Linda Emmons, who is seeking re-election.

Sherri Matthews, a Union Republican, filed Monday to run for collector. Toriq Karim, a Union Republican, last week filed to run for collector.
