The Highway 100 beautification project has gone up in flames, literally.

Mulch and natural vegetation in the median beds have caught fire three times this month, June 6, 8 and 12.

Dan Boyce, city engineer, said the beds will have irrigation, however, it is not functioning at this time.

Hillermann Nursery & Florist, who planted the beds, is still working to get the irrigation installed.

City council members asked that people be aware of the dangers of throwing cigarettes out their window, and to avoid doing it near the mulch beds.
