ALIVE Inc., also known as Alternatives to Living In Violent Environments, announces Maggie Menefee, MSW, as its new executive director.

ALIVE provides emergency shelter and counseling services to victims of domestic violence and operates offices in St. Louis and Franklin counties.

Menefee comes to ALIVE with more than 20 years of experience in management of crisis intervention programs and services for victims of abuse.

Her previous leadership positions include serving as executive director, first of The Child Center and then of Healthy Youth Partnership Inc. Prior to holding those positions, she was coordinator of the St. Charles County Victim Assistance Program, which was among the first programs in the St. Louis area to provide 24-hour assistance to domestic violence victims seeking orders of protection.

Most recently, Menefee served as the program director for the adult day center at the Jewish Community Center. She has experience in personnel and fiscal management, as well as experience working directly with clients, with staff and boards, and with legislators and influential community leaders.

ALIVE’s mission is to provide counseling, emergency sanctuary and other critical services to adults and children impacted by domestic abuse, as well as to increase awareness to create a supportive community.

Founded in 1983, ALIVE provides shelter using placement in confidential motel locations when local brick-and-mortar shelters are filled to capacity and unable to accept new resident.

ALIVE also employs licensed professional therapists to provide counseling to adults, children and families to minimize the traumatic effects of abuse. Programs and services also include court advocacy and community education.
