District Will Pilot Big Smiles Dental Program
In partnership with ReachOut Healthcare America, the Washington School District will pilot the Big Smiles Dental Program to provide free in-school dental care for students.
Participating schools include Clearview Elementary, Fifth Street Elementary, South Point Elementary and Washington West Elementary.
A licensed dentist will visit each school every four to eight weeks to provide exams, cleanings, x-rays, fluoride, sealants and fillings.
The program is free if the student is covered by Medicaid or similar programs, and there are some no-cost resources available for the uninsured as well.
Parents are welcome to come with their child at the time of the visit.
Consent forms that explain the program were sent with students and are available on the district’s website.
Students also will be taught how to care for their teeth and the dangers of tobacco products.
