Despite chilly temperatures, spectators still turned out Saturday morning for the St. Pat’s Day Parade, sponsored by Downtown Washington Inc.

The parade, which was moved to the weekend for the first time, featured nearly two dozen entries.

“For our first Saturday parade, we thought it went really well,” said Aimee Frey, event coordinator.

“We had a few conflicts because of the St. Louis parade, but we still ended up with a little over 20 groups and that was great,” she said.

Rain showers the previous Saturday had forced officials to postpone the parade to March 16.

“It was pretty cold, but no rain and otherwise really nice,” Frey said. “I would guess that we had around 400 people watching.

“Everyone who participated seemed to have a great time, so I think next year will be even better,” she said.

The lineup included the Blue Jay mascot, antique fire trucks and cars, McGruff the Crime Dog, several floats, walking groups, decorated vehicles, violinists and a dog walking group.

Frey said the plan is to keep the parade on a Saturday and grow it each year.
