Only two candidates have filed for Washington School Board as of Tuesday.

Filing resumed last Thursday when district offices reopened after winter break.

The last day for candidates to file is next Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at 5 p.m.

Regular filing hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the district’s administration building, 220 Locust St. in Washington.

Candidates who have filed include incumbent Daniel Contarini and Trish Mitchell, both of Washington. Both filed opening day.

Contarini, who resides at 1305 E. Third St., is completing a three-year term. He also served on the board in the late ’90s.

Mitchell lives at 821 W. Fifth St. This is her first run for school board.

There are two open board seats. Rick Rehmeier, a longtime board member, does plan to seek re-election.

If no one else files, an election will not be held since there are two candidates for the two open seats.

School board candidates must be citizens of the United States and resident taxpayers of the district who have resided in the state of Missouri for one year preceding their election.

Candidates also must be at least 24 years of age, not a registered sex offender, not serving a sentence or period of probation for a felony or a crime that if committed in Missouri would have been a felony, and have never been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony or misdemeanor under the federal laws of the United States of America.

School board members serve three-year terms.
