Little Progress on City Water Meter Project — Installers on Break
By Karen Butterfield, Missourian Staff Writer
The Missourian
Little progress has been made on completing Washington’s water meter project.
That’s because workers hired by Pedal Valve (PVI), the company installing the meters, are off for two weeks for the holidays, according to Kevin Quaethem, water/wastewater superintendent.
Quaethem said only a few meters had been installed since the city sent out letters advising residents that their water may be shut off if they did not schedule an installation appointment.
Quaethem said PVI and the city will be back in full force Monday, Jan. 7.
At that time, Quaethem said he will regroup with PVI on the status of those on the “no contact” list to see if any residents had attempted to make appointments during the break.
Quaethem said it’s likely that another batch of letters will go out to the remaining residents. The letter will have a final contact date before water will be shut off.
Quaethem stressed that it is not his goal to turn off people’s water, but PVI and the city have tried several other methods, with little success, to contact those who have not had their meters changed.
Those who have not had their meters switched over should call Pedal Valve at 636-221-9074, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment.
There is no charge for the service.
