Tickets are on sale for the Washington and New Haven Power of the Purse events.
The Washington event is planned for Thursday, March 21, in the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Center. Reservations are due no later than March 18.
The New Haven event is set for Thursday, April 4, at the New Haven Senior Center in the Assumption School Hall. The reservation deadline is April 1.
Both events will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Both will feature a silent and live purse auction, along with food and drink and entertainment, according to Kim Strubberg, program coordinator.
“We host these programs for women in various communities throughout the county to build awareness and interest in the many works of the United Way,” Strubberg said.
“The United Way hopes a partnership will be created through the Power of the Purse, resulting in an even stronger network of caregivers in our communities,” she added.
Events also are planned in St. Clair and Pacific this spring and one is held every year in Union in the fall.
All reservations can be made by calling the United Way office, 636-239-1018. People may pay in advance or at the door the day of the event. Cash, checks or credit cards will be accepted.
Strubberg said women are invited to participate either by attending, donating a purse or making a monetary donation. Donations should be mailed to United Way, P.O. Box 3, Washington, MO 63090.
“This is a great opportunity for women to lend their support to the United Way and help those in need,” she said. “A donation to this wonderful event will make a positive difference in many lives.”
Strubberg said “every type of purse and price range” will be offered. Event committees have been formed for each event.
The Franklin County Area United Way’s mission is to Build Better Communities by strengthening families, nurturing children, assisting the elderly and disabled, and providing emergency services.
Last year United Way’s agencies and programs helped over 70,000 people in 35 communities.
