A Washington man died after being involved in a vehicle accident just before 10 p.m. Sunday.

William Luttrell, 81, apparently suffered a health condition, possibly a heart attack, while driving, said Washington Police Department Detective Sgt. Brad Erisman

Luttrell lost control of the 2007 Chevy Impala on Center Drive, just north of East Fifth Street, and struck a parked vehicle, Erisman said.

The passenger in Luttrell’s vehicle, Ellen Young, 77, of Union, attempted to gain control of the car and stop it but was unable to, Erisman said. She was uninjured.

Luttrell was transported to Washington’s Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by emergency room doctors, Erisman said.

Luttrell’s death was related to his medical condition, not the accident, Erisman said.
