A sixth candidate has filed for one of five Washington City Council seats that will be on the April 2, 2013, municipal election ballot.

Walt Meyer, the incumbent Ward 1 councilman, filed Friday for re-election, according to City Clerk Mary Trentmann.

Meyer will face opposition from Tom Coulter, who filed earlier for the seat. Two years ago, Meyer narrowly won a three-way race against Coulter and Katherine Shaw.

So far, that’s the only race to emerge on the ballot.

The five seats that will be open in April include a one-year unexpired term in Ward 3.

Greg Skornia has filed for that seat now held by Tim Brinker. Brinker resigned to take the position of first district county commissioner. He will be sworn in Dec. 28.

Other candidates who have filed are:

Ward 2, Jeff Mohesky, incumbent; Ward 3, Jeffrey A. Patke (two-year term); and Ward 4, Joe Holtmeier, incumbent.

Connie Groff, Ward 3 incumbent, has not filed for re-election.

The deadline for candidates to file for municipal offices is Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.

The last day to register to vote in the April election is March 6, 2013.
