Mercy Heart Fair, County Heart Walk Partner for Event in March
To leave a bigger impression on the community about heart disease prevention and care, Mercy is transforming its annual Heart Fair for 2013.
This is the fifth year for the Heart Fair and the first year it will not be held at Mercy Hospital Washington in February. Instead, Mercy is collaborating with the American Heart Association to bring its Heart Fair to the Franklin County Heart Walk March 9 at the Washington Fairgrounds.
“These are two great events that have complementary activities and similar missions,” said Terri McLain, president of Mercy Hospital Washington. “By bringing them together, we can make a bigger impact on the community. We think it will save more lives through raising awareness, offering free screenings and raising money for research.”
While the American Heart Association hosts the walk to raise funds for education, research and clinical support projects, Mercy will host free heart health screenings in a heated tent. Mercy health care specialists, including Mercy Clinic Heart and Vascular cardiologists, will answer questions and offer health advice.
Mercy recognizes February as Heart Month. Leading up to the Heart Fair and Walk, Mercy Clinic cardiologists — Drs. Michael Beardslee, John Mohart, Joseph Moore, Joseph Polizzi, Brian Seeck and Michael Wood — will offer their expertise as guest speakers at interested schools, businesses, churches and organizations.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in America. Mercy offers preventative programs for heart disease and services to diagnose and treat it. The hospital also offers 24-hour emergency care to treat heart attack symptoms.
