A Robertsville area man was arrested inside Fricks Market Friday, May 17, after he left the scene of a crash that injured two people and then struck a stop sign.
Union police said Richard Kiefer, 57, was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger southbound on North Washington Avenue after 7 p.m. when the vehicle struck the rear of a 1999 Ford F-450 driven by Jason C. Sneddy, 32, St. Clair, that was stopped at a stop sign at Main Street.
Sneddy and passenger Steffanie K. Murphy, 33, St. Clair, were injured in the crash, police said. A 4-year-old St. Clair boy who also was in the Sneddy vehicle was not hurt, authorities said.
Kiefer could face assault charges, police said.
Kiefer drove south on Washington Avenue from the crash scene and struck a stop sign at the Locust Street intersection, police said.
The suspect then parked his vehicle in the Fricks Market lot, and went into the store where he was arrested for suspected driving while intoxicated.
Police allege Kiefer was impaired on a combination of alcohol and depressants. He told police that he could not remember what happened in the crash.
