Franklin County deputies were handed a major clue when they went to investigate a burglary off Highway AH, southeast of Union, Monday afternoon.

One of the suspects, Fallon E. Gogan, 22, left her purse with identification inside at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

That led investigators to a home in St. Clair where Gogan and the other suspect, Ricky A. Ward, 24, were found hiding in the backyard, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The two were charged in felony warrants with second-degree burglary. Their bonds were set at $25,000.

Officers responded about 3:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a burglary at the home in the 2600 block of Highway AH, south of Interstate 44 and Highway 50.

Copper wire, copper tubing and electrical wiring were stolen from the home, the sheriff’s office said.

During questioning, Ward and Gogan admitted to stealing the copper to sell for scrap, according to the report.
