Union police still are searching for an 18-year-old Union man in connection with a shooting during a drug deal at the Union City Park early Wednesday.

Dakota L. Hopper, 21, Lonedell, is charged in a felony warrant with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon in the incident. Prosecutors requested a $75,000 bond.

Charges on the second man are expected to be filed Monday, Union police said.

Authorities allege that Hopper and the other suspect were involved in the shooting of a occupied truck at the Rotary Pavilion at the park.

The pavilion is located across Park Avenue from the Sunset Nursing Center.

Authorities said four men were in a truck at the city park at 12:48 a.m. and were attempting to purchase marijuana from the suspects in a car.

Three of the men were from Owensville and the fourth was from Gerald, police said.

Hopper and the other suspect may have thought that the victims were trying to steal the bag of marijuana and one of the suspects discharged a pistol into the air and then at the truck, police said.

The second shot possibly flattened one of the truck tires, according to Union police.

The truck then left the park area and was pursued by the suspects.

The driver of the car rammed the truck on Highway 50 at Pecan Tree Lane west of Highway UU, forcing the truck into a guardrail.

One of the victims called 911 to report the incident.

The two suspects confronted the four other men after the crash, and one suspect allegedly punched a victim, Union police said.

Hopper allegedly demanded cellphones and cash from the victims, police said.

The suspects fled as police responded to the scene.

Hopper was arrested Wednesday morning by Washington police. The pistol used in the alleged shooting also was recovered, authorities said.

Hopper has eight criminal charges since 2009. His address also has been listed off Highway AJ, Washington.
