An $8 million Union R-XI School District bond issue was approved with nearly 60 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Proposition KIDS,  a no-tax increase bond issue, was approved with 1,093 votes, or 59.47 percent. There were 745 votes, or 40.53 percent, against the ballot measure.

District officials have said the sale of bonds will allow the district to make major capital improvements at the three elementary schools, middle and high schools and central office.
