Woman Robs Sullivan Business at Gunpoint
A woman held a clerk at the Sullivan Express Cash business at gunpoint Thursday morning and stole an undetermined amount of cash before she fled the scene.
The clerk was not injured, and as of late Thursday morning the suspect had not been captured.
Sullivan Police Department Lt. Patrick Johnson told The Missourian at the scene on Thursday that the woman entered Express Cash, 400 E. Cumberland Way, located between the Interstate 44 South Service Road and East Springfield Road, about five minutes after the business opened at 9 a.m.
She demanded cash from the lone clerk working at the time. When the clerk, also a woman, refused, the robber displayed a handgun, pointed it at the clerk, walked behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash sitting on top of a desk.
The suspect then left the business and fled west on foot toward a dense brush and tree area. Law enforcement did not know if she then left in a vehicle or continued on foot. Sullivan Police, Franklin County Sheriff's deputies and Missouri Highway Patrol officers were at the scene conducting the investigation and also were searching the area.
The suspect is described as a white woman with facial acne, 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5 inches tall, thin and in her 30s. She had long, blonde hair wrapped in a pony tail and was wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes and a red, pocketed hooded sweatshirt with some kind of logo on the front.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sullivan Police Department at 573-468-8001 immediately.
