Snow Days Force School Calendar to Be Extended
The cancellation of classes in the St. Clair R-XIII and Lonedell R-XIV school districts on Thursday and Friday this week means extra days of school will be tacked on to the end of the academic year.
Because of the winter storm that hit Franklin County on Thursday and the adverse road conditions that followed in its wake, both St. Clair and Lonedell R-XIV canceled classes on that day as well as Friday.
All schools in the county were closed both days.
St. Clair R-XIII Superintendent Mike Murphy confirmed to The Missourian on Thursday night that the district’s makeup days will be Monday, March 11, and Friday, May 17.
March 11 originally was a day off in the district, but is one of the scheduled snow makeup days.
On the district’s calendar, set in February of last year, May 16 originally was scheduled to be the last day of classes. But because there are no other remaining “snow days” on the schedule during the academic year besides March 11, May 17 had to be added.
St. Clair High School’s graduation is scheduled for Thursday, May 16.
Makeup days for Lonedell will be on May 16 and 17, Superintendent Fred VanBibber told The Missourian on Friday morning.
Lonedell’s last day of classes was scheduled to be May 15.
