The St. Clair R-XIII School District did not waste much time in selecting a new assistant superintendent and then fill the vacancy created when an internal candidate was promoted to the position.

On Monday night, the board of education unanimously voted to promote St. Clair Elementary School Principal Nadine Myers to assistant superintendent and then move that school’s assistant principal, Steve Weeks, to principal of that building.

Both promotions will become effective on July 1, the beginning of the new fiscal year.

“Nadine is very strong with her communication skills and her understanding of curriculum,” R-XIII Superintendent Mike Murphy told The Missourian on Tuesday morning. “She will do an outstanding job in this position with the school district.”

Myers was one of two internal candidates who applied for the position.

“It is a bittersweet transition to say the least,” Myers told The Missourian on Tuesday morning. “I look forward to working with our current administrative team to continue the momentum our district has in place. I have appreciated working with the elementary team, and I am saddened to leave the building. However, I look forward to continuing our work in my new role with the district.”

The R-XIII Board of Education called a special meeting for Monday night. After the meeting was under way, the board went into executive session to discuss both candidates as well as other positions.

When the meeting resumed in open session, the vote was unanimous to promote both Myers and Weeks to their new positions.

“I would like to thank the board of education along with Dr. Murphy, Mrs. Vest and Mr. Denbow for their confidence by offering me the principal position at St. Clair Elementary,” Weeks said. “I am looking forward to continuing my work with the current staff in order to build upon the successes our building has already achieved.”

Murphy also announced that longtime Meramec Valley R-III teacher Beth Hill has been hired to become the assistant principal at Edgar Murray Elementary School.

That hiring became necessary when current Assistant Principal Larrinda Witt was promoted to principal earlier this month after current school boss Kent Sherrow resigned to become the principal at Hermann High School.

“Both Steve and Beth will do an outstanding job for us,” Murphy said. “Steve has done very well in his role at the elementary school. His leadership has been very evident as that building has continued to move forward.

“We’re very pleased he accepted the principal’s position there.”

Murphy said he planned to announce the most recent hirings to district personnel on Tuesday afternoon. The district now also will conduct a search for an assistant principal at St. Clair Elementary School.

Vest turned in her letter of resignation on March 19 effective at the end of the current academic year. Vest has been with the R-XIII district for three years and has been hired by the Laclede County R-I School District as its superintendent.

Monday’s decisions were the latest in what is becoming a lengthy list of administrative hirings in St. Clair R-XIII.

During the school board’s March meeting, two additional pieces of the leadership puzzle were put in place as current R-XIII teacher Ted Koenigsfeld was hired to be the new administrative intern at the high school while Eric Lause was offered the job as the assistant principal at the junior high.

Koenigsfeld and Lause, who comes to St. Clair from the Washington School District, were the fourth and fifth individuals to be offered administrative contracts for the upcoming school year, meaning Myers, Weeks and Hill are the sixth, seventh and eighth individuals hired to new leadership positions.

The turnstyle started spinning when Kevin Hillman resigned as St. Clair High School principal earlier this year. He was replaced by SCHS Assistant Principal Mike Hunter. Hunter was replaced by current SCJHS Assistant Principal Jeff Hamlett. Lause is replacing Hamlett.

Nadine Myers

Myers was hired to be St. Clair Elementary principal in July 2009 after serving as assistant principal there beginning in August 2005.

Prior to that, she was a second-grade teacher at the school from 1997-2005.

Myers earned an educational specialists degree from Missouri Baptist University in April 2009. She also has a master’s of elementary education degree from Southwest Baptist University and a bachelor of science degree in education from Central Methodist College.

According to her resume, Myers also is a part-time professor at Missouri Baptist teaching psychology as well as master-level courses on administration and curriculum development.

She also is the president-elect of the South Central Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals.

Steve Weeks

Weeks is in his third year as assistant principal at St. Clair Elementary School.

Prior to coming to the R-XIII district, he was a third-grade teacher in the Columbia school district.

Weeks earned a master’s degree in elementary education from William Woods University in 2006 after receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in 1998.

Elizabeth Hill

Hill has 17 years of middle-school teaching experience, including 15 at Meramec Valley. She also serves as that district’s RTI coordinator.

Hill earned a doctorate of education degree from Missouri Baptist University in 2012. She also has master’s degrees in educational administration and general education, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her specialist of superintendency certificate.
