Franklin County deputies investigated a shooting Sunday night at a Labadie area residence.

Deputies went to the home in the 2000 block of Highway T after the department received a call from a young female who said her mother had been shot in the hand. The caller said the shooting stemmed from a domestic disturbance, according to a report.

Deputies questioned a 50-year-old woman who sustained a gunshot wound to her left ring finger. The woman told officers she found a small-caliber pistol while cleaning out cabinets and the weapon accidentally discharged while she was attempting to throw it into the woods so her children would not find it. She said she does not like guns, according to the report.

The woman was taken to Mercy Hospital Washington for treatment.

Meanwhile, officers questioned other people at the home, including one man who was asleep in a bedroom, but no one provided any information about the incident.

A 43-year-old Labadie man who appeared intoxicated was taken into protective custody and for further questioning at the county jail, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation is continuing, according to the report.
