Two Franklin County doulas have teamed up to open a new business in Washington.

Stephanie Herron and Nicole Rekart will hold a grand opening for their Franklin County Birth Service Saturday, Aug. 12. The business is located at 1160 W. Fifth St.

Herron said she and Rekart were inspired to open the business to help the growing number of families who are seeking out doulas. A doula is a nonmedical birth companion who helps out with childbirth, she said.

“We offer physical and emotional encouragement for people wanting a natural birth,” Herron said.

Both Herron and Rekart are trained doulas and have experience in the field.

“The goal is to help guide, support and encourage families before, during and after birth,” Herron said. “We offer luxury birth and postpartum doula support, top-notch photography, creditable breastfeeding support, and many other wonderful things to come.”

Herron said she and Rekart found the Fifth Street office space and renovated it. The space will serve a dual purpose.

The first is to offer an office space to meet with clients. The business will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment only.

The office space also will allow for the duo to offer classes and meetings. Herron said there are plans for a monthly breastfeeding support group and other mom groups.

Another purpose is a photography studio. Rekert runs Megaboo Photography. Herron said she’ll be using the studio space for newborn photography.

At the grand opening, there will be hot dogs, raffles and gift bags. The opening will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We just felt like this was something that was missing in this area,” Herron said.
