Downtown Washington shoppers looking for home decor inspiration will have even more reason to visit The Painted Home come late March.

The Painted Home, which specializes in vintage decor and design, is expanding into its neighboring storefront.

The newly expanded store will allow for new product line and space for the store’s workshops, classes, private events and a new design center, according to owner Angie Pritchard.

The new addition will add 3,000 square feet to the 2,100-square-foot showroom.

“People notice when they come in, it’s totally different,” Pritchard said. “We re-did the new side and we’re moving stuff around on our old side to make room for new products.”

The Painted Home offers several lines of furniture, decor, jewelry, paint, home accessories, antiques artwork and more. The store also hosts painting parties, offers home design services and workshops and interior finishing.

Pritchard has worked for more than 30 years in interior design, remodeling bathrooms and kitchens, creating special finishes, refurbishing and giving new life to furniture and other items. She first opened The Painted Home in 2013.

Pritchard said with new development in the area, and an increase in business, the expansion made sense. She said the expanded area will give customers a better look at some of the services the store offers.

“There’s a lot of new construction going on around here and we can help with those choices. Flooring, tile, you name it,” she said. “We always had home design services, but I don’t think anyone knew we did that. Whether it’s refacing and making your new cabinets better or replacing them altogether, we can do it.”

The store will hiks its grand reopening Saturday, March 24, with appetizers and samples. Pritchard said she hopes the new expansion will bring in customers. She said the expanded space adds a lot to the store, including a wall dedicated to jewelry.

Along with the added space will be a new look at The Painted Home. Pritchard said the remodel of the expansion inspired a new aesthetic for the entire shop.

“We’re doing a little more of a modern farmhouse style in the store,” she said.
