The Blue Duck is preparing for the opening of its new location at 516 W. Front St. on the Washington Riverfront.

The restaurant will officially open Monday, Sept. 9. It is the first commercial tenant in the Rhine River Development.

Along with the move, the restaurant shortened its name, dropping cafe and bakery from the title.

Karmen Rayburn, who owns the restaurant with her husband Chris, said she they couldn’t be more pleased with new location.

“We’re excited to be downtown on the riverfront and to be a part of the downtown community,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of community support and we hope everyone will follow us to the riverfront.”

The couple has been working to secure a new location since about November 2012, primarily due to the need for additional space. Ground was broken for the new restaurant in April 2013.

The restaurant will take up the first floor of the building, about 3,169 square feet, with seating for 75 seats in the main dining area, 25 in a lounge area and an additional 45 on the outdoor patio.

Rayburn noted that the restaurant and patio will be smoke free in accordance with Smoke Free Washington.

Hours, Menu

Along with the move and name change, the hours also have been expanded.

Hours will be Monday through Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and closed Sunday.

Rayburn said they are exploring the possibility of adding Sunday brunch in the future.

For the most part, the lunch menu will stay the same, she said. A limited dinner menu will feature the lunch items as well as seasonal dinners. The restaurant also will have a full bar.

“We want to thank the entire community for supporting us over the last three years and for making it possible to take on this new venture,” Rayburn said.

Orders can still be called in. The restaurant’s phone number will stay the same, 636-390-9131.

The restaurant’s new website will be
