With an intent on catering to the average, working-class person, the Adams family opened a resale shop, Adams Family Resale, in Union.

The shop is located at 317 Highway 50 at the intersection of the highway and Hoover Street.

After several years of bringing items to the flea market and swap meets to sell, the family decided it was time to open their own shop, said Richard M. Adams.

Adams owns the shop with his wife Kathryn and father, Richard C. Adams.

Adams and his wife currently live in Union and his father lives in Villa Ridge.

The younger Adams runs the shop, while the elder Adams runs the junk removal business. Kathryn Adams keeps the books.

The Adamses will pick up junk from businesses, property management companies or individual homes for free, Richard M. Adams said.

“I like the flexibility to be able to sell about anything I want,” he said, adding that prior to opening the business he was a manager for a local store. “I loved it there, but I didn’t get to decide too much.”

Adams said his family prides themselves on being a little less pricey than other resale shops.

“We wanted to help people like us,” he said.

The shop offers clothes, furniture, appliances, tools and other items.

To keep prices low and to keep inventory constantly changing, the shop does not accept consignment.

Hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The business can be reached by calling 636-393-2103, or by searching Adams Family Resale on Facebook.

A grand opening celebration will be held Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Barbecue will be served in the back parking lot, off Hoover Street. The event also will include raffles and door prizes.
