Pinckney Bend Distillery in New Haven was awarded a Double Gold Medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its Rested American Whiskey.

The medal was won the highly competitive American Whiskey Class.

The competition included more than 1,400 entrants from 62 countries.

Recognized as one of most reputable spirits competitions in the world, all judging is done blind. This means that other than class and category, judges have no idea who actually produced the spirit they are evaluating until the end of the competition.

“In San Francisco we have the chance to compete against some of the biggest names in the spirits business,” said Jerry Meyer, company president. “The best and most respected craft distilleries are also there. Large operation or small, success at this level is a very big deal.”

Head Distiller Tom Anderson said Pinckney Bend set out to create an historically accurate 19th century whiskey.

“It represents a way point on the evolutionary path that eventually led to what we know today as bourbon whiskey,” he said.

Pinckney Bend’s Rested American Whiskey is aged for about one year in new 15-gallon Missouri white oak barrels, which are produced by McGinnis Wood Products Company in Cuba.

“Like wine, the best whiskey is defined by where it’s made,” said Ralph Haynes, vice president of marketing and sales. “We are proud to produce a Missouri-made whiskey, using Missouri-made barrels, hand-crafted from oak trees that were grown not far from the distillery.

All the more reason to drink local.”

Pinckney Bend Rested American Whiskey is available at most major liquor retailers in the St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia and Jefferson City areas. Products also are distributed in seven surrounding states, and exported to Singapore, Italy and Australia.
