A new antique store, Scudder & Co., has opened in Downtown Washington.
The owners are Kimberly and Jerry Scudder, who recently moved here from just outside of Memphis, Tenn.
The couple brought their antique and repurposed furniture business with them to Downtown Washington and opened at 106 Elm St.
“We were doing it at an upscale antique mall in Memphis,” Kimberly Scudder said. “But it’s not quite the same because we have our own store.”
Scudder & Co. specializes in refurbishing antique furniture by repurposing and painting. The store also sells candles, soap and milk paint all made in the United States.
“We sell a little bit of everything,” she said.
The couple started refurbishing antiques for fun and for some extra cash, but ended up making it into their full-time job.
“It was just one of those things that we started doing for some extra money, not supporting ourselves, and we ended up really liking it,” Scudder said.
She added that everything the couple sells is refurbrished by hand by them.
“Everything is done by my husband and me,” she said. “We repair everything. Sometimes you look at furniture and you pull a drawer out and it falls out. We don’t do that. Everything is repaired.”
Scudder & Co. is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
