Leslie Tucker, M.D., AGAF, FACP, FACG, with Mercy Clinic Gastroenterology in Washington, has been named Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the nation’s oldest medical society dedicated to disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

Through the fellowship program, the AGA honors superior professional achievement in clinical private or academic practice and in basic or clinical research.

Fellowships are awarded to AGA members whose accomplishments and contributions demonstrate personal commitment to the field of gastroenterology.

The American Gastroenterological Association is the trusted voice of the GI community. Founded in 1897, the AGA has grown to include 17,000 members from around the globe who are involved in all aspects of the science, practice and advancement of gastroenterology.

The AGA Institute administers the practice, research and educational programs of the organization.

“It is a great honor to be named a fellow of the AGA,” said Dr. Tucker.  “It’s the premier academic organization in gastroenterology, and the driving force for research and education in our field. I have been extremely fortunate to be a long-term member, and to be able to participate in the annual Digestive Disease Week, and AGA postgraduate courses.

“Being a member of this organization has been so valuable in my clinical practice, and a great enhancement to my teaching, clinical research and publications.”

The mission of the AGA is to promote the science and practice of gastroenterology through the support of research, education, advocacy and practice.

“AGA acknowledges our members with superior professional achievement in the field of gastroenterology with fellowship within our organization,” said Michael Camilleri, M.D., AGAF, AGA Institute president. “We are proud to announce the inductees for the AGA Fellowship program who have been recognized by their peers and community as being at the forefront of our field.”

Dr. Tucker is part of the Mercy Clinic Four Rivers’ gastroenterology group in Washington. His office is located in Mercy Medical Building South, at 901 Patients First Drive, Washington.
