Monday will mark the 60th anniversary of KLPW-AM 1220’s first broadcast on the air.

The station made its debut Aug. 18, 1954, at 12:20 p.m.

The station was then owned by Leslie P. Ware, with veteran radio announcer Norb Moore serving as KLPW’s first station manager. Others on board for the inaugural broadcast include Frank Lohmeyer, Washington, as well as Chuck Otte, Don Hobelman, George Porges and Herb Houseman, all of Union.

The station is now owned by Broadcast Properties, Inc. Diane Jones is the current station manager.

KLPW-AM 1220 will be marking its 60th birthday with a special anniversary edition of the morning show, featuring former KLPW staffers who include East Central College President Dr. Jon Bauer; Ron Scheer of Steamboat Financial; Bob Hamilton, news reporter of KMOX in St. Louis; Leon Hanks, program director at KPLA-FM in Columbia; Ron Tobben of Ron Tobben Insurance; and Leon Knoernschild, now retired from KSDK-TV.
