The Farm to You Market, Washington, will host its first free sampling event of 2018 Thursday, March 8, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Market owners, Todd and Katie Geisert, have offered quarterly sampling events since the market opened in 2016.

“This is an opportunity for our community to meet and try the food offered by many of the local farmers and producers that can be found at our farmers market,” said Katie Geisert. “It’s a chance to try something new — maybe find a new favorite. We’ve also added a new and exciting twist: the ECC culinary students will be here, preparing something special.”

Bailey Kirkland, ECC culinary arts graduate and executive chef of the Barnyard Café, located inside the Farm to You Market, said the market will donate free products for the students to create something unique that will be offered for sampling.

“They will have the opportunity to experience using quality, locally sourced products and really show off what they can do with them,” Kirkland said.

Geisert said The Farm to You Market is extremely supportive of the ECC culinary program.

“We want people to know it’s there and it’s producing quality chefs,” she said. “Putting students out in front of foodies who are in their area is a great chance to give them some real-world experience. We gave them some locally raised Todd Geisert pork, and the culinary freedom to produce something great.”

The event will feature everything from beer and wine to meat, dips and produce from more than 20 vendors.

“Come hungry, you’ll leave happy,” said Kirkland. “We have a lot of amazing products and ingredients — sometimes people wonder how to use them or what to put them in, this is a chance to find out firsthand.”

The Farm to you Market is a year-round farmers market, featuring a grocery, deli and the Barnyard Café. The market is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located at 5025 Old Highway 100 in Washington.
