Union High School graduate Dr. Jon Copeland, a general dentist in Wildwood, was honored Nov. 2 as the 2018 Missouri Dental Association (MDA) Outstanding New Dental Leader at the MDA House of Delegates.
The Outstanding New Dental Leader award is designed to recognize a member of the MDA who has been in practice 10 years or fewer and has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities, professional and ethical conduct, and volunteer activities in their community and organized dentistry.
Copeland is especially recognized for his new dentist leadership and volunteer activities within the dental profession, deeming him a “rising star” among his peers.
In 2017, he was a recipient of the inaugural American Dental Association “10 Under 10” award and is chair of the MDA New Dentist Committee, helping to organize new dentist activities, including the MDA’s newly established Connect4Success Conference.
Copeland also participates as a speaker at various dental student outreach programs to share his real-world experiences to positively affect the future of the profession.
In addition to his leadership and volunteerism in organized dentistry, he donates his time to provide dental care in his community. Copeland is a founding member of the Veterans Dental Care Coalition, which provides free dental care to veterans.
Another dental organization, Dental Lifeline Network, learned of his efforts to provide veteran care and is now working on secondary pilot programs in Denver and Washington, D.C., based on the St. Louis model Copeland helped establish.
Copeland owns Town Center Dental in Wildwood. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2009 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and completed a General Practice Residency in 2010 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha.
He also received dual degrees of a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Art in Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2004.
He is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, the American College of Dentistry, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, all of which are dental organizations that recognize excellence in the dental profession.
Copeland and his wife, Stephanie, also a dentist in the St. Louis area, have three children. Both doctors recently were featured in Incisal Edge magazine as winners in its eighth annual 40 Under 40 Awards, a celebration of 40 of the finest young clinicians age 40 and under.
