Plans call for a St. Louis news station to install a camera in Downtown Washington where it will shoot footage that can be aired live. Community and Economic Development Director Sal Maniaci said the city and Washington Area Chamber of Commerce recently met with representatives from KMOV, Channel 4, after sending a packet to members of the St. Louis area media.
Last week he told the Washington City Council that the camera will be installed on the roof of 116 W. Main St., a building that now houses Tower Loan.
The cost of the camera is $840, with a $100 a month fee for Charter internet services. Both costs are split between the city and Chamber.
The camera would have an arm on it and could look both directions on Main Street and to the Missouri River.
Maniaci said the live feed could promote festivals downtown.
He added that Fox 2 showed interest in a web camera somewhere downtown, but the location has not been finalized.
