Washington will soon have a new restaurant, featuring a wine bar and coffeehouse, Cafe Tinto.

The cafe will be located in the Washington Business Center building at 14th and Jefferson street. It will be on the street level and at the rear of the building, which also houses Rieser Family Dental and Coldwell Banker Premier.

Nick Guzman, manager and co-owner, said the cafe will open mid-August. Guzman co-owns the business with Scott Zajac, both who reside in St. Louis.

“We thought it would be a nice addition to the city to have a sophisticated place to hang out and grab coffee or lunch during the day,” said Guzman, adding that he spends a lot of time in Washington.

Originally from Colombia, South America, Guzman said the name “tinto” is a slang word for coffee in Spanish and also means “red wine.”

The cafe will feature Missouri wines and Kaldi coffee, as well as a breakfast menu and dinner menu. Cocktails also will be available.

Coffee and winetastings are planned, as well as entertainment once the business is up and running.

Zajac and Guzman have been working on the restaurant plan since about January, enlisting the help of a professional chef to plan the menu and working to remodel the space for the restaurant.

“I’m looking forward to meeting people in the neighborhood and bringing people to the area,” Guzman said. “Our goal is to bring fresh, creative food to Washington.”
