Centerpointe Hospital officials hope to break ground on a new facility in Washington within the next few months.

Dr. Azfar Malik, CEO and chief medical officer, said they are waiting on final architectural plans and other final approvals for the new building, which will be located on Highway 100 east near the NSports building.

“We are really excited about this,” Malik said. “As Washington grows, this will allow us to grow with the city.”

The new building will be from 12,000 to 15,000 square feet, much larger than the 500-square-foot facility at 205 Elm St. in Downtown Washington, Centerpointe’s current location.

Centerpointe offers a broad range of services for mental health and addiction, treating both the patients and their families, in an outpatient or inpatient setting.

Like the current location, the new building will offer outpatient services only, but Malik said the hospital will be able to broaden its scope of treatment to include services for children and adolescents.

The current location sees about 30 to 50 patients per week, some on a weekly basis and some monthly.

“Right now we provide some of those services, but with the new building we will be able to serve more people,” he said. “We also will be able to provide more ample parking.”

The hospital acquired about three acres of ground at the location about five years ago, but a major expansion to the St. Charles facility put the building in Washington on hold.

“We couldn’t coordinate two expansions at the same time,” Centerpointe Marketing Manager Connie McDonald said.

Malik said he hopes to be in the new building by the end of this year.
