Washington City Council members Monday night opted to forward to the full council the high bid for a replacement car to be driven by the city engineer.

Bids for a 2014 Chevrolet Impala Limited four-door sedan LS fleet model came in at $17,582 through Don Brown Chevrolet, which holds the state contract, and $18,078 at Modern Auto in Washington.

Both numbers are bottom \line, delivered costs. Both bids are under the $25,000 budgeted for the car.

The new vehicle will replace a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu.

Mark Hidritch, city council member, said he favored spending the money locally with Modern Auto. Other council members agreed.

Joe Holtmeier added that the city will get more than $500 for the old vehicle through the surplus auction.

The council voted unanimously to purchase the car locally.

The final decision will come at the full council meeting to be Dec. 2.
